College S.A.F.E.

Keeping High School and College Students Safe!

S.A.F.E. college self-defense workshops are for both men and women.

The S.A.F.E. program is divided into 3 modules; Awareness, Restore and Control (ARC).  These concentrate on how to be aware of, resolve and manage both mental and physical conflicts that might arise on a daily basis.  This system is much more than a martial arts self-defense program.

Awareness Module

This section covers both self awareness and external awareness for living a safe life as well as how to maintain balance and deliver powerful strikes.

Some topics include:

  • Physical body language and how not to look like a victim
  • How to overcome a victim mindset
  • Avoidance of dangerous situations
  • Strong posture for effective defense
  • How to strike powerfully

Restore Module

This section covers how to prepare for and resolve a conflict before it turns physical as well as how to receive and diffuse physical attacks from larger attackers.

Some topics include:

  • Understanding the predator mind
  • Identifying violent behavior
  • Effects of adrenaline
  • Verbal de-escalation
  • Defending against slaps, punches and grabs from the front

Control Module

This section emphasizes the physical skills necessary for confronting and ending violent behavior.

Some topics include:

  • Discover weak points on the body
  • Physical self-defense skills to include pressure points
  • Personal space and its importance
  • Exercises on honing your intuition as a self-defense tool
  • Learn how to escape or control someone larger than you

Testimonial

"It is with great pleasure that I write a letter extolling the value of the S.A.F.E. program (Safety Awareness Fundamental Education) that Michael Eichenberg has developed for schools.  We at Naperville Central High School have been utilizing Michael, his program, and his instructors for 3 years in our Physical Education program. The information that has been given our students over those years has greatly assisted our students as they venture forward to the “REAL WORLD” after graduating high school.

Michael and his instructors have conducted themselves in a very professional manner. Much thought has gone into the delivery of the message of the importance of awareness in order to feel and be safe in different environments. Instruction also includes strategies of how to deal with situations which can not be avoided.

Our school and department whole heartedly endorse this program. This has been a great addition to our Physical Education program and certainly a benefit to our students who take advantage of participating in this class."

-  Paul Zientarski, Department Coordinator Physical Education, Retired, Naperville Central High School

(Mr. Zientarski  and Naperville Central H.S. were featured in the book "SPARK" by John J. Ratey, MD)
